WordCamp London 2015

May 18, 2015
Chris Skitch
A few days ago in London Metropolitan University a big bunch of WordPress lovers came to the WordCamp London 2015 – the conference of the God of open source platform  – WordPress. Everyone who use WP for building websites, knows, that it’s one of the best things which happened to the web developers in the last decade, Didgeroo is not exception – we love WordPress and we were there!

The conference was divided into 3 tracks: The Rocket – more orientated into developing, The Graduate Centre – design, marketing, UI/UX things, and The  Henry Thomas Room for motivating stories about non-profit and successful start-ups which began their journey with WP.

We were more than excited to hear all these sessions, but yea – that’s truth we could attend only at one at the same time. So we cannot be 100% objective, but our favourite top 5 is:

1. HTML Responsive Images with rockstar open web standards guru – Bruce Lawson.

This presentation introduce the wonderful new srcset attribute for handling responsive images.  See Bruce’s slides or I highly recommend watching his video.

2. CATCHING YOUR GREAT WHITE BUFFALO – FINDING AND CATCHING YOUR DREAM PROJECT by Bowe Frankema

Inspiring speech about A WordPress powered social network for people affected by Cystic Fibrosis. Bowe – we love you! You did and doing a good job! And thank you WP you were there and helped things happen. SLIDES or VIDEO

4. THE CULTURE OF FREEDOM: FREE SOFTWARE AND FREE SPEECH by Glyn Moody.

Glyn remind us Linus, the father of the first open source Operation System LINUX, which influenced developers to share and not to hide their codes into the deepest corners. He also discussed about the importance of the freedom of online publishing, where WordPress plays a leading role today.

5. GOING FREELANCE by Jo Waltham.

Jo is a super woman with all business skills in the one person. She was honest and presented the real facts and difficulties of being self-employed.

No bad words about other presenters, a big thank to you guys – you all were awesome!

And the BIGEST thank to people who organised WordCamp!

So the answer to the question “what makes the internet better” is easy – it is WordPress!

P.S. food was HQ! ;]
